D-day at Droxford Country Show (2014)
OK, not actually D-Day but the 70th anniversary at Droxford Country Fair.
It started off so wet and miserable that I feared it was going to be a washout. I couldn't have been more wrong as the weather cleared up quite quickly and became so hot the refreshments stall ran out of cold drinks. I think the ice cream stand did exceptionally well out of it.
This year they went all out on the 1940's theme, complete with Churchill, de Gaulle, Eisenhower and Montgomery. Well, alright, look-a-likes.
I was set up between Canine Contentment and the dog show, which was incredibly popular despite the heat. Unusually for me I only had one Pet Portrait all day, but it was this beautiful (and very well behaved) boy.
He even wore a patriotic collar. He wasn't the only one dressed up, as many stall holders and visitors came in period costume. My own little stall had the wonderful Mark and Emily who brought a selection of WW2 uniform and (deactivated) weapons for people to handle and wear.
Children, mostly boys of course, really enjoyed being able to handle the kit and especially the weaponry.
We were fortunate to have a very low fly past by a Dakota (or C 47 Skytrain if you prefer) in WW2 markings. It was so low that the photo opportunities were very limited in our part of the grounds.
Next year (oh yes, I'm going again next year!) I will be spending more time wandering around to take photographs of the whole event.
