How (not) to photograph a biker weekend!

Last weekend was the 'Over the Edge' rally on the Isle of Wight. It's my favourite bike event of the year as it's large enough to be busy and small enough to be friendly. It's also really close and easy to get to!

There were so many photo opportunites, from meeting up with people on the way, on the ferry and seeing people arrive singly or as part of small convoys. There are the bikes, the silly games, rides out, bands and as with every year, Stan and his varity of costumes. It's always the people that interest me, oh yes I do love the bikes and everything else that goes with it, but it's people that make the event regardless of the occasion.

Of course the venue can help, the setting can improve it, and it certainly can make things easier for a photographer. Even so, it's still the people that make the event. There were two groups of people that make Over the Edge for me, the people who organise the event (Stan and Co) from booking the venue, the bands, the beer tent, stage, toilets etc and the people who turn up to enoy the event.

We had a guided tour by some of the staff, and tea and cakes in the cafe (when it's up and running the cafe will be 1940's themed) For those who wanted to make a donation to help cover fuel, there was the opportunity to have a ride in an armoured vehicle. As far as many were concerned it's a tank.

For me it was a great weekend, but for a change it was an event I was there just to enjoy. Yes I took work with me, but for a change it was coming with me, rather than my entire reason for being there.
